Extractor Pin Install

The instruction video makes it look so easy. It took me well over an hour of struggling (and sore fingers) to finally get the pin to seat correctly. I had to resort to using a horseshoe clamp with a fine shim to keep the new extractor in place while also using an allen key of similar size from the opposite side to try and further align the new extractor while pushing on the new extractor pin on the other side of the bolt. I finally felt a slight catch, but the pin wouldn't go any further. In the end I used my mallet to tap the pin in place. Even then it wouldn't seat completely but far enough not to cause any issues regarding clear operation. I did try the new pin in the bole and separately in the new extractor to make sure it would fit in both the bolt housing and the new extractor. All other installations of M*Carbo accessories were as smooth as butter and basically took less the a minute each. This new extractor pin was clearly a test of patience and finger endurance! The pin from Hell.

Did a full upgrade on my PC Ruger this weekend replaced the Edge Extractor, Shock Buffer, Bolt Head and Extractor Pins, SS Recoil Spring Retainer, and SS Trigger Pin Group Pin Kit. Very happy with the quality of these replacement parts over the factory parts.

Got these to swap out oem when I was doing the extractor. Simple and fast seems more robust
When you get the Exact Edge Extractor also get the PIN kit

Using the 30 rd. Glock magazines in my Ruger PC Carbine I had 4 or 5 FTEs per magazine. Really annoying. This happened regardless of the brand of ammo I used. So I knew it wasn't the ammo. After I saw the YouTube video I ordered the Exact Edge Extractor and the Bolt Head Pins & Extractor Pin Kit. It was really easy to swap out the stock items. Then off to the range. I was amazed!! No more FTEs - not one! I sent about 500 rds. of various ammo down range and had no FTEs. This kit (pins & extractor) is highly recommended! Excellent product! I'm very happy!
Bolt Head Pins Wouldn't fit

Tried to install the bolt head pins but they wouldn't fit (they were about 0.001" bigger in diameter than stock pins). The extractor pin was used with the MCarbo extractor and worked fine.

I purchased this part and installed it in accordace with the video by the President of Mcarbo. Although it is very stylish don't let it fool you. It took me about a month to get out to the range after installation and right away problems. The bolt would not hold open on the last round and would only fire one round at a time while having to chamber every round.
I emailed and called Mcabro several times "NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME BY PHONE OR EMAIL". I took the gun to a gunsmith and was still having the same problem until I reinstalled the original Bolt Head Pins & Extractor Pin and it's all working as perfectly normal as before.
The take away from this is everything that looks good/stylish is "NOT".

These seemingly mundane additions to the 9mm Ruger carbine, these retainer items are of much tougher stuff than the factory components. In the long run these will likely avoid excess wear on the bolt head and any malfunctions that may result. Another installation that is easily undertaken with little more effort than cleaning the firearm after a day at the range.
A Nice Upgrade for Increased Reliability
review-star review-star review-star review-star review-star
The replacement of the Bolt Head Pins and Extractor Pin with A2 Steel pins increases the the reliability of the rifle. If your carbine is used on a regular basis the stock bolt head pins will show wear and that wear could cause failure at some point. This upgrade is definately worth doing.
