We took our 9mm Glock-compatible S2K to the range yesterday to primarily test the recoilless charging handle and a new reflex sight we installed. Once sighted in, the thing was making one ragged hole at 20 yds for both of us. We switched to testing the recoilless charging handle we recently received. Since the install is pretty easy, we took it with us to swap in and out with different ammo. We have the MCarbo two-finger charging handle and really like it. We also have the MCarbo recoil buffer, as well as an aftermarket recoil pad, primarily to add some LOP to the stock. Swapping out the charging handle and testing the carbine using different ammo (115 Gr. TMJ, 124 Gr. FMJ, and 147 Gr. HST), swapping between the recoilless handle and our two-finger handle, neither my wife, nor I could detect any change in felt recoil between the two handles. My wife even commented that she liked the way the two-finger handle feels better, so we went back to the existing handle. It's a well-designed and finished piece, hence the 4-stars. It just, for felt-recoil, not doing it for us. We may have seen something if we put a scale to it, but as far as sensed recoil, we didn't feel it. We're looking forward to testing more parts when they're available. Thank you, MCarbo for making the great upgrades for a great carbine!!!
I was amazed when I found MCarbo. I had never given any thought to upgrading my Sub-2000. This was a no-brainer. I also got the recoil bushing and tube cover. Installation was easy except for the pin. I recommend looking at comments from the youtube video about compressing the spring. It took me an hour to get the pin onto the spring. It helps to really compress the spring first. There must be a tool to make this easier. Overall, I am very pleased.
The Recoilless charging handle is a significant improvement on the stock charging handle. It is obviously heavier and thicker and makes it easier to pull with less stress on the small joints in the finger. I have not shot it yet, so I cannot comment on the felt recoil, but will update after I shoot. Thank you M*CARBO!
It's much easier to operate this charging handle than the OEM charging handle. Big improvement.
In the video, Chris Nelson makes it look fairly easy to install the"toolless integrated locking pin. Believe me, it was not easy considering at least three hands are needed.
Easy install. I bought the blemished one, no obvious marks.
got the spring compressed ok, but the cap fell off and had a difficult time lining it up again with the new pin cap.used a gorilla hook to finally compress the top spring down to line up the holes on pin. phew!!!
Easy enough to install but after installing, I couldn't lock back the bolt. M-carbo insists it's an improper install. No way it can be anything else. After checking my install over a dozen times, in 100% sure the install is correct. I tapped the charging handle into the lock back position with a rubber mallet, and it works now, but it leaves me wondering what the problem was. I don't much like hammering on my guns. As for the charging handle mitigating recoil,,, I don't think there's a difference, even with the doughnut in there. I don't really see this as a worthwhile upgrade.
Just swapped out my extended charging handle for the new recoilless one. I also added the buffer. I put about 150 rounds through it at a steel shoot this weekend. seemed easier to stay on target and notice recoil reduction.
This is probably their best handle and greatest idea. This practically killed all recoil and made it much more comfortable to shoot, even with out the recoil pad.
I’m a old guy. This charging handle make it much easier for my old fingers to get a hold. If you read any of my other reviews you know how much trust and faith to help me. Thank you McCarbo team
I installed the recoilless charging handle on my Sub2K yesterday after rewatching the video to make sure I got it right. After I inserted the new charging handle into the buffer tube, I checked to make sure it was positioned proper. I don’t have a magnetized screwdriver or synthetic grease, so I just dropped the locking pin down the buffer tube and used a screwdriver to turn the pin until it was seated in the handle. Only took patience, a few minutes and a couple tries to get it right. Love how much easier it is to cock now. Thank you M*Carbo!!
This is a much needed upgrade for reducing felt recoil on your S2K. Only adds a few ounces to your weapon and has a big impact. Also you get the benefit of a larger Charging Handle which really helps if you are having problems with the factory instrument of pain they call a charging handle. I have arthritis in my hands and had a hard time with the factory unit. Combine this with the recoil buffer and you can't go wrong. Install both in 5 minutes tops during the field strip procedure.
This charging handle is like night and day compared to the original stock one, so much easier to use and as a bonus you get some recoil reduction!
