Recoil Springs Are The Work Of The Devil

Very difficult to compress this spring and install the new keeper. Strongly suggest getting a buddy to help because you really need three hands. Compress the spring using a small drill bit or punch thru both sides of the spring and also thru the top of the bottom interior eyelet. This will allow you to use both hands on either side of the punch and give you much more leverage to compress the bottom half of the spring. While you have it compressed have your friend slip the small allen key thru the bottom eyelet to hold the spring. If you are not satisfied with the amount of compression then repeat by moving the punch just under the allen key, compress again then move the allen key to hold the new compression. If you are able to get it fully compressed it will make your job so much easier for compressing the top half of the spring and replacing the OEM keeper. Also helpful to have a friend install the new keeper while you compress the top half of the spring with the same technique.

If the tool pops out you are totally screwed. Now I have no idea how to compress the spring to get the locking pin in. I am really wishing I had not attempted to use this pin

First off I want to thank Mcarbo for the great products and fast shipping.

Tip:

Drill a 3/8" hole in a 2X4 and 3/4" piece of wood. Find an allen wrench the same size as the one provided (longer is better). Compress the spring with your hand and push in the allen wrench. Now use the allen wrench as leverage and pull on the spring again and then push in the second allen wrench. It's easier with another person, but one person can do it. The spring will be fully compressed and the installation of the part will be a breeze. Otherwise you will cramp, bleed and cuss. Your choice.

Already had a new charging handle so this item interested me. I ordered it and it arrived within days. With the help of Chris' excellent install video, I had it installed within minutes. Good, solid part. Tightened up the charging handle, keeping it from falling out as well as helping with pull and release. Great product from a great company. I also like the fact they have products for other pistols/rifles/shotguns as well. Bought some of those parts too!!!!

Only 3 stars due to difficult installation. Bloody thumb to prove it! Suggest you offer this part installed, as an option, on a replacement factory recoil spring assembly ($10 at Kel-Tec). Just add the additional cost of the new spring assembly since it is so easy to install!

Installing the old style locking pin is quite a tedious operation, having to adjust the orientation of a flathead screwdriver repeatedly every 1/16 and simultaneously adjusting the charging handle takes time to achieve the mechanical feature, I'm REALLY happy with this new tool-less pin, MCARBO never ceases to amaze me... my sub2k is a whole new animal.

I'm now ordering two more of these locking pins as the one that came with the charging handle is hiding somewhere in my basement after blasting off the compressed spring. Maybe its me, but I find this upgrade to be the most painful, my fingers are still throbbing. I wouldn't mind paying extra for a spring and pin assembly. Something to consider.

Quick tip for the install, use a second allen wrench just below mid-point and use that to compress the spring. Makes it a piece of cake even for this arthritic 65yr old man. A lot easier to install spring pin into charging handle.
