this tool well do the job you have tighten this thing up tight i mean like you think you going to break the barrel you need a good vice
The video showed the jaws were machine-contoured, the ones I received were not. I used painter's masking tape on the barrel, and used the stock folded up 90 degrees to the barrel to hold the rifle to keep it from turning inside the jaws. There was no marring on the barrel when the tape was removed.
I used these as instructed on the muzzle brake installation video They worked flawlessly. I have to say the people at MCARBO are spot on when they post a video for a product that they manufacture. If you ever need help; they are the most politely enthusiastic people that you will ever deal with.
I spoke to customer service about my problem with this product. I will say they are responsive, however not helpful. The response was; yeah, we know that the barrel jaws weren’t the ones shown in the video, that said you can use a cheap vice (I bought the same vice that was in the video), but we decided to send a less expensive set of jaws. We didn’t want to charge that much for a tool. So we scaled it back. Then she told me that I would have to use a much more expensive vice to make the product that they sent me work. Double the price of the more expensive jaws that were in the video, would have saved me $30-$50 on the price of the vice I needs to buy. Net! Sell the right tool!
Man this was a game changer for me the Barrel jaws work great and they came in really fast too!
Put tape on the barrel. Tightened it tighter than I’ve ever had to tighten a vice still slipped and took the finish off the barrel where it rotated. I’m an experienced gunsmith and decided to try this instead of doing what I knew would work. Better off making a barrel clamp out of the proper wood and saving the finish on the barrel.
Worked as described. Excellent tool for my smithing tool box!
The barrel Jaws Mcarbo sent me are NOT the same as the ones shown in the installation video. They are shorter and do NOT have the deep and shallow cut-outs that are needed to properly grip the barrel. I literally tightened the vice as tight as it would go (I am 6'1, 270 LBS.) and it still did not secure the barrel. I used masking tape and it still slipped and badly scratched / damaged my barrel. With all of that I still could not get the muzzle brake to line-up correctly. I have seen several complaints now very similar to mine so I have to wonder why Mcarbo continues to sell this misrepresented product to customers knowing that it doesn't work correctly and damages customer's guns?
Liked the idea of this but didn’t hold the barrel in place; watched video, etc., etc., first MCarbo product that I was disappointed in. Ended up removing the Handguard and using a traditional vise.
Although the barrel jaws you guys sold or completely different from the ones on the YouTube Keltec video were you install it on the sub 2 K They worked decently I just had to put rough painters tape so we could get a good grip and not slip
Greetings, M-Carbo Brotherhood Brothers & Sisters! Let me tell you a story about these small barrel jaws. In a nutshell, they WORK! They are well made and the magnets installed in them really help when it comes to lining up the barrel of your Sub 2k in your vise to do work like adding a muzzle brake or front sight removal. I did NOT put any tape on the barrel; now I have an interesting silver marking near the chamber end of the barrel. These marks are not visible and do NO harm. As I stated before, these barrel jaws work!
I took my sub2000 to a gunsmith to have a compensator put on the muzzle and thankfully I had rhese and left them with him to use. Otherwise he wouldve had to jerry-rig something and who knows how thatd went. Theyre nicely made and sturdy and always insist on sticking togrther so you shpuld never lose one.
I'm spoiled by the install vids! The brake is great and installs easy. The jaws don't fit at the place the barrel changes contour, but the area closest to the hand guard. They fit there perfectly, but it may help to update the video.
The barrel jaws did not secure the barrel from spinning, no matter how tight I tightened using a vise. I scratch the crap out of my barrel instead. I watch the tutorial on YouTube and did the same exact steps except the barrel jaws they had were different from the one they sent me. I ended up taking it to a gunsmith and they installed it in for me with their tools. I would still buy stuff from Mcarbo even though this product didn't work.
I received the product as promised and after watching the video online the install was a breeze. I'm very happy with the product and the look of the Muzzle Brake mounted is awesome.
