These would only offer minimum improvement if it not for the polishing set .
After seeing the video for the springs and polish on the SP-101 and hearing that there is ~ 50% decrease in the trigger pull, I jumped on this. I've had the SP-101 chambered in .357 Mag for at least 10 years now and struggle with the double action while target shooting because of the heavy pull. Overall, I found the tolerances with my revolver were much better than what was shown in the video but was still able to utilize shims in the trigger and hammer. Since I was tearing the pistol down, I would go ahead and polish just to help make it as smooth as possible. The video as always from MCARBO is great. I give this product 3 stars simply because I do not feel any difference in the trigger weight in double action. I do not have equipment to measure the weight of the trigger, so I don't have quantitative before and after comparisons. Only what I feel. I should note that I have done springs for my P365 from MCARBO and felt the difference with that. I just recently installed the short stroke flat trigger and that too has made a huge difference on the P365.
After finding this item, checking out reviews. And watching the installation video, I said what the hell and purchased this hammer and trigger spring kit and the polishing kit. I will say this, the video was very well done, which made the task pretty damn easy. My issue is this though. I followed the video to the T, even pausing and rewinding enough to drive my wife nuts, but I still don't really notice that much of a difference. Yes I did have to cheap out on a trigger pull gauge, but still when you actually pull the trigger and or hammer back, you would think you would notice the change. Hell I dunno, maybe it's like everything else and the springs just needs "broke in".
Great product definitely made a big difference on both guns. Side note. Had a issue with the 22lr M*carbo brothers went above and beyond to help me out. Definitely appreciate the honesty and dedication. I would highly recommend them.
Had the pleasure of having your team install this on my SP101, after seeing your youtube vid on this. Couldn't be happier, and the lightning fast turnaround was icing on the cake!.
Very happy with the product. YT video was very helpful. Thanks!
Loved the fact of a "speed" loader revolver, but hated the trigger on my SP101 9mm............ Until NOW ! Awesome video..... and to quote......"like butter". NIGHT & DAY difference. Unbelievable difference !!!!
for enabling me to vastly improve my Ruger. The video on YouTube was awesome and made it possible to step by step perform the work.
I watched the video, printed a couple pages from the instructions, and then watched the video again as I did the job. What an improvement! I had no idea that my revolver had so many burrs and rough edges and wear spots on the trigger and hammer assemblies. After polishing and installing the new springs, the trigger pull is now smooth and easy. Thanks for a great product and terrific customer instruction.
This kit provides everything you you need for a new revolver, or a rebuild of an older one. If it’s not in this kit you don’t need it. I’ll be ordering this kit for my other Ruger’s.
This kit was well thought out and it works! I did two sp101's with this kit and results were spectacular these revolvers now feel like custom gun smithing smooth double action and precise light single delivery was very quick...Capt John
Bought this set to install in yet another Ruger revolver, which says a lot. MCarbo has two great insights. The ends of the springs are cut off flush, and can't hang or catch on the internals. The other is taking a Dremel tool and Flitz to the innards. Triggers break like glass, especially if you get really meticulous with the polishing. Not sure whether Chris added this to the video since the last time I did one, or I just missed it the first two times but applying a dab of the included PTFE inside of the grip frame to aid in getting the trigger assembly to snick into place without tapping, or worse, with a hammer. Also not sure whether this is a feature, but the matte stainless finish on this latest revolver seemed to have more rough edges on the inside. Might just be my unit, though. Took a bit more time to polish things, but it was worth the effort. I've worked over a lot of my guns over the a lot of years using a lot of aftermarket parts, but I've come to swear by the MCarbo kits.
I have 3 ruger revolvers. The SP101 has the potential to be the perfect revolver for me, just between the lightweight LCR and the giant GP100, with the size to fit my hand and the weight to handle .357 recoil. It just needs a better trigger. This kit brings out the true potential of the gun. I am no gunsmith- never done anything like this, and with the video the instal went perfect and I just got back from the range, shot 150 rounds through it with the new springs. Awesome! I also added a hogue grip and now this revolver is perfect. Thanks Chris Nelson for all the attention to detail! for just a few bucks this changes the whole experience.
I just finished up my second trigger job using this mcarbo spring and shim kit. The first was an sp101 357mag snub nose, this second one is a gp100 357mag 6” barrel. I’ve done trigger jobs before with springs from other places. But this spring kit with the shims is the only way to go! I did my sp101 a few years ago, and it’s my edc still today. But I’m a little more impressed with job I did on my gp100, unlike the sp101 it had a decent trigger to start with, but it’s even better now! I also polished the whole gun on the gp100. Here’s before and after pics.
Night and day difference in the SP101 trigger, follow the video instructions, The Trigger Plunger can be installed first before working with the trigger shims and it easier to put the transfer bar in place and and use paperclip rather than a screwdriver, to install the pawl, springer and plunger allowing you to have a finger to move the paul and lock the plunger in place,
after watching video several times I ordered kit. very fast shipping time to do the whole polishing and spring and shim took about 2 hours. went to range shot 35 rounds very great feel and accuracy improvement
